RV dump station FAQ

Should I flush my black tank every time I dump it?

A rinse can help, but it is not a reason to force water or use equipment the RV or site does not support.

Short answer

You do not necessarily need a full black-tank flush after every dump. A rinse can help remove residue when your RV has a built-in flush connection or the dump station provides a safe, approved method. Follow the RV and equipment instructions, protect the fresh-water supply from cross-connection, and stop if the tank, valve, or hose shows signs of a blockage or leak.

What to keep in mind

  • Use only a backflow-protected, non-potable setup intended for tank rinsing.
  • Keep the black-tank valve open while rinsing unless the manufacturer gives a specific timed procedure.
  • A flush cannot replace enough water in the tank during normal use; follow your treatment product's directions.

Facility services, fees, access, and local disposal rules can change. Confirm the details with the operator or local authority before you travel.
